Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Cystic Fibrosis

At the end of this session you will:

  • Have an understanding of cystic fibrosis
  • Know the main symptoms of cystic fibrosis and how it affects the body
  • Have knowledge of current treatments
  • Have gained an understanding of the education and support needs of children with cystic fibrosis
  • Have increased their knowledge of what can be done to support a child with cystic fibrosis
  • Understand some of the commonly asked questions and difficulties faced by children with cystic fibrosis and those who care for them
The learning objectives in this session link in to the following units:
  • Childrens Induction Standards:
    • 5.6 Supporting disabled children and children with special educational needs:
      • a - Know what the 'social model of disability' means in relation to your work


  • Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Individuals with Learning Disabilities:
    • Optional Units – Group B:
      • PD OP 2.1 - Understand physical disability

      • SS OP 2.3 - Contribute to the support of individuals with multiple conditions and/or disabilities


  • Level 2 Health and Social Care Diploma (including Generic, Dementia and Learning Disability Pathways):
    • Group B - Optional Context/Specialist Knowledge Units:
      • PD OP 2.1 - Understand physical disability
      • SS OP 2.1 - Introductory awareness of models of disability
    • Group C - Optional Competence Units:
      • HSC 2004 - Contribute to monitoring the health of individuals affected by health conditions
      • PD OP 2.2 - Work with other professionals and agencies to support individuals with a physical disability
