Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Equality Act 2010

At the end of this session you will:

  • Summarise the scope of the Equality Act 2010 and how it applies to work and service provision in health and/or social care settings
  • Identify who is protected by the Equality Act 2010
  • Explain and recognise the types of unlawful conduct under this legislation and how to prevent them from occurring
  • Know the action which a person can take together with the assistance and resources they can use if they have experienced unlawful discrimination (or other forms of unlawful conduct under the Equality Act)
  • Explain the Public Sector Equality Duty and how it must be applied
  • Know the purpose of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and the Equality Advisory Support Service and how to use their resources
  • Know the definition of hate crime and the legislation which applies to it
  • Apply and integrate what they have learned to their practice and be able to evidence it
  • Identify further learning needs in relation to the topics covered
The learning objectives in this session link in to the following units:

      • c - Understand different types of prejudice and discrimination and how they can be challenged

      • a - Know about important laws relating to children and young people, and where you can get further information
