ObjectivesIndividual Learning Session: Working with parents and carers
At the end of this session you will:- have an understanding of the importance of the need to build positive relationships with parents and carers and know how to apply their understanding to their practice
- know how to ensure that they maintain a consistent approach between themselves, other professionals and the parents or carers of the children with whom they work
- understand the detrimental impact which an inconsistent approach and poor communication between the adults involved in child care can create
- have had opportunities to explore how to build up a relationship of trust by creating clear lines of communication between themselves and parents and carers
The learning objectives in this session link in to the following units:- Childrens Induction Standards:
- 1.1 Principles and Values:
- a - Show how you promote the principles and values essential for working with children,young people, their families and their carers.
- 2.3 Relationships with carers, parents and others:
- a - Understand the valuable role families and carers play in supporting their children so they can achieve positive outcomes
- 4.3 Communication with parents and carers:
- a - Know when to provide information to parents and carers
- b - Understand how to raise concerns with parents and carers in an appropriate way
- d - When making decisions about the children and young people you work with, consult their parents and carers (if appropriate)
- 5.6 Supporting disabled children and children with special educational needs:
- d - Understand how you might support children and young people with special educational needs, and their families, in relation to your work
