ObjectivesIndividual Learning Session: Multiple Sclerosis
At the end of this session you will:- Understand the importance of supporting people with MS in a person-centred way within the social model of disability
- Understand the importance of personalising the support provided to people with MS and know it is necessary to have flexible and adjustable support plans in place
- Know key local and national agencies which provide information, support networks and advice to people with MS
- Have insight into the needs of the informal carers and families of people with MS and know the local resources which they can use
- Have a good background knowledge of multiple sclerosis: know that it is a term used for a group of conditions and know its main symptoms, types and prevalence in the UK
- Know about how the condition is diagnosed and the social care and NHS support a person can expect to receive post-diagnosis
- Be familiar with relevant national and local policy for supporting people with long-term neurological conditions
- Be able to promote awareness and understanding of MS among colleagues and the general population
