Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Data Protection Law

At the end of this session you will:

  • Be able to explain how the Data Protection Act 2018 must be applied to your work and understand how it links with your professional conduct and practice when observing confidentiality.
  • Understand how the Data Protection Act 2018 ties in with other key pieces of legislation.
  • Know the six key principles underlying the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Know the consequences of data protection breaches.
  • Know the role of a Caldicott Guardian [or, if in Northern Ireland a Personal Data Guardian] and how the Caldicott principles relate to the Data Protection Act.
  • Be able to demonstrate, through your day-to-day work, that you consistently apply your knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 to your practice.
  • In relation to the topics covered, be able to identify any gaps in your learning, skills and experience which need to be further addressed.
