Objectives

Individual Learning Session: Asthma and other Respiratory Conditions.

At the end of this session you will:

  • Have a good background knowledge of asthma and other common long-term respiratory conditions.
  • Know the main symptoms of asthma and other common respiratory conditions, and the factors which contribute to their development.
  • Know how asthma and other common respiratory conditions are diagnosed
  • Have insight into the prevalence of asthma and other common respiratory conditions in the UK in children and adults.
  • Understand the importance of supporting people with asthma and other respiratory conditions in a person-centred way within the social model of disability.
  • Understand the purpose of personalised support plans and asthma action plans (AAPs) and the need to be committed to applying their content.
  • Know key local and national agencies which provide information, support networks and advice to people with asthma and other respiratory conditions.
  • Be able to promote awareness and understanding of asthma and other respiratory conditions among colleagues and the general population.
  • Have had the opportunity to identify further learning needs and skills gaps in relation to the topics covered and explored how these can be addressed.
